Group Tax Manager

The Opportunity 

The role supports the Group Head of Tax and Transfer Pricing in relation to the global management of indirect taxes, most notably VAT, Customs and Environmental Taxes, with a focus on tax governance, controls, and advisory, and covering all of Dechra's worldwide operations. It's a hybrid role, with c. 2-3 days per week spent working at the Group's global headquarters in Northwich with other members of the Group Tax Team and the wider Group Finance and Treasury and other Head Office Functions teams. 

Additionally, you will support the Group Head of Tax and Transfer Pricing on various Group Tax activities such as structuring, NBD and M&A activities and act as Tax Partner to several of the Group’s Finance Business Partners, staying close to Dechra’s business in a range of territories and keeping stakeholders across the Group informed of changes in tax legislation and regulation.

Role Responsibility

So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied remit and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:

  • This is a varied role with mixed responsibilities across the Group and UK entities in relation to a range of indirect taxes, including VAT, Customs and Environmental Taxes. Additionally, the role may at times be required to support other members of the Group Tax Team in relation to direct taxes and transfer pricing. 

    In particular:

  • Lead business partnering in relation to indirect tax, customs and environmental taxes.
  • Provide expert advice on indirect tax, customs and environmental taxes across various regions.
  • Act as the technical indirect tax lead on complex advisory projects, supporting the Group Head of Tax and Transfer Pricing with ongoing projects and ad hoc queries.
  • Oversee and manage VAT, customs and environmental taxes control checks and deep dives to minimise risk and identify opportunities.
  • Ensure accurate final review of UK VAT returns, for sign-off by the Group Head of Tax and Transfer Pricing.
  • Drive improvements in indirect tax processes and systems.
  • Maintain the Risk and Controls Register for Indirect Taxes, Customs and Environmental Taxes, and manage HMRC processes etc.
  • Deliver periodic training to the business in relation to indirect taxes, customs, and environmental taxes.
  • Remain up to date with the evolving tax landscape, Dechra’s growth initiatives and help raise Tax awareness of internal stakeholders across the Group.
  • Support the wider Group Tax Team on other areas of tax on an ad hoc basis.
  • Responsible for own personal health & safety.

Essential

  • Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel and Word
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills

  • Self-starter with energy to, and ability to, work to tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, comfortable communicating in any medium and to any size audience in an inspiring, articulate and credible way
  • Displays high level of accuracy, diligence and integrity
  • Able to form relationships with wide range of people and strong team player with collaboration skills
  • Indirect tax experience of multinational groups, ideally gained from working at a large accountancy firm or in an in-house Indirect Tax role
  • Up to date knowledge of relevant tax legislation and experience in tax reporting and accounting
  • CTA and / or ACCA / ATT / ACA qualified
  • Occasional domestic / international travel may be required

Desirable

  • Advanced excel skills an advantage
  • ‘Big 4’ or ‘Top Ten’ qualified desirable
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing and/or pharmaceutical Company
  • Good awareness/ experience of customs and environmental taxes would be an advantage
