The Opportunity
The Head of Indirect Procurement is part of the Global Procurement Team within the Supply Chain function and reports to Supply Chain Director. The Head of Indirect Procurement is responsible for leading and managing the indirect procurement function (including supplier and contract management) within the organisation. This role involves developing and implementing procurement strategies that align with the company's goals, optimizing supplier relationships, and ensuring cost-effective purchasing practices across all indirect categories.
This role directly manages the category management team for indirect spend areas and is responsible for all outcomes for Indirect related procurement and subsequent spend and supplier management. Ongoing development of the procurement team (people, skills and technology) for the Indirect spend is also a responsibility of this role.
Role Responsibility
So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied remit and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:
- Accountable for the delivery of the annual business plans for the entire Indirect spend (through management of category managers), duly signed off by business stakeholders.
- Leading and managing a team of professional procurement category managers delivering a pro-active, professional and highly commercial service, responsive to the needs of clients and operational service delivery.
- Managing the Indirect category team and ensuring the team has excellent technical and soft skills that enables delivery of relevant responsibilities in the most effective way. Working to retain talent within the organisation and where required plan and execute any resource replacement through recruitment activities (internally or externally) for relevant roles.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal leaders at all levels to ensure that Indirect Procurement aligns with their business objectives.
- Ensuring that Indirect spend is managed effectively, supporting change management and continuous improvement to deliver a cultural change in the approach to procurement.
- Confirm compliance with company policies and procedures related to procurement practices.
- Foster strong relationships with suppliers to enhance collaboration and innovation.
The Candidate

- Extensive experience in procurement or supply chain management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role focused on indirect procurement ideally in an international (pharmaceutical) manufacturing organisation.
- Proven track record of successfully managing indirect spend categories such as IT services, marketing, facilities management, professional services, etc.
- Experience in implementing effective procurement strategies, policies, processes and systems.
- In-depth knowledge of procurement systems and best practices e.g. Working knowledge of multi-site ERP systems (Oracle preferred)
- Experience in leading international procurement projects
- Excellent understanding of contractual terms and conditions
- Ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers
- Strong leadership and team management skill
Desirable:
- Experience with indirects in the pharmaceutical (veterinary) manufacturing industry, in particular CRO Exposure in pharmaceuticals (veterinary) manufacturing guidelines (GMP)
Additional Information:
- Occasional global travel is required with this role.
