The Opportunity 

The Procurement Category Manager is part of the Global Procurement & Supply chain team and reports to Head of Procurement. This position manages both the strategic and tactical aspects of sourcing a number of product related categories within the Pharmaceutical sector, such as Excipients, Laboratory equipment, API’s, Packaging, to meet the requirements of internal stakeholders within a regulated Pharmaceutical environment. 

It’s expected that the Category Manager position leads / initiates value chain optimisation and improvement initiatives with internal stakeholders and suppliers for business growth, cost optimization and security of supply.

The role will be based at our Northwich offer 2-3 days a week.

 

Role Responsibility

So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied remit and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:

  • Proactively leads category global sourcing strategy, working across functions, regions, and manufacturing sites to understand and define business requirements, respond to changes
  • Leads the category team comprising of Category Procurement Specialist/s
  • Coordinates and develops strategic sourcing teams, responsible for the global sub-categories
  • Builds group procurement best practices & talent management to identify and deliver sustained year on year pipeline of opportunities
  • Sets the sourcing strategy and implements category strategy to ensure short, mid and long term objectives
  • Proactively drives continuous improvement of processes, cost savings and value creation without compromising compliance, quality or service
  • Ensure compliance and security of supply for category, proactively identifying and mitigating all forms of risk to quality, service and cost
  • Provide oversight for compliance programs necessary when working with suppliers
  • Continuously drives the organisation for the generation and review of ideas for cost savings opportunities with the target of 3% YoY savings
  • Actively seeks and delivers cost and process improvement projects
  • Supports the business prioritisation and implementation
  • Proactively partners and aligns with the Manufacturing, Product Development, Regulatory, QC and Global Supply site teams, as well as support functions to ensure delivery of the strategic and operational needs of the business 
  • Guarantees operational performance by being a pro-active business partner
  • Responsible for continuously gathering Market Intelligence to ensure market competitiveness and transparency of current terms of cooperation with suppliers
  • Manages full portfolio of suppliers within this category, taking ownership of complete sourcing process, commercial negotiations and further contracting with cascading the terms to Local Buyers
  • Executes business review meetings with suppliers and internal stakeholders, monitors global KPI within the category, develops suppliers according to the principles of supplier relationship management
  • Responsible for leading Requests for Information (RFI), Requests for Quotation (RFQ), Supplier Evaluations and Due Diligence, Negotiation, Contracting, and ultimately owning Supplier Relationship Management for key contracts.
  • Improves value by working collaboratively with multiple internal (global) stakeholders

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experienced procurement professional ideally in an international (pharmaceutical) manufacturing organisation
  • Direct experience in pharmaceuticals (veterinary) manufacturing guidelines (GMP) would be ideal
  • Expertise in number of product related procurement categories within Pharmaceutical or other chemically regulated industry
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement systems and best practices
  • Working knowledge of multi-site ERP systems (Oracle preferred)
  • Experience in leading international procurement projects
  • Good understanding of contractual terms and conditions
  • Good knowledge of suppliers market and environment
