The Opportunity 

We're looking for a QC Shift Manager to work on our late shift, Monday to Friday, 2pm - 10pm.  Reporting to the QC Manager and managing a team of Analysts and Senior Analysts, you shall enhance laboratory practices and promote a culture which is consistent with cGMP, cGLP and Health & Safety within a pharmaceutical laboratory environment.

Responsible for leading the Quality Control laboratory shift resources to achieve the required organisational throughput in a compliant and effective manner.

Role Responsibility

The Challenge

So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied remit and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:

  • Day to day management of the QC shift team, including managing employee performance and well-being, routine 1-2-1s, target setting, and coaching individuals through any development needs. 
  • Manage the throughput of inbound and outbound goods (raw materials, intermediates and finished products) within the department. Coordinate resource priorities with Planning to achieve schedule adherence.
  • Collation and tracking of agreed KPIs, including the preparation of reports and metrics.
  • Identification and management of risks within or directed towards the department.
  • Preparation and scrutiny of reports (routine and ad-hoc), as required, to peers and senior management.
  • Effective communication with other departments to facilitate the progression of QC activities.
  • Lead investigations in to out of specification (OOS), out of trend (OOT) and a-typical results by applying technical knowledge and problem-solving skills.
  • Ensure Quality Control activities are performed consistently, on time and in accordance with both company and legal requirements.
  • Actively seek opportunities to optimise the performance of processes, people and other resources.
  • Support the QC Manager with the hosting of departmental audits and inspections, including:
    • The compilation of responses.
    • Ensure response commitments are fulfilled.
  • Support the QC Manager in the delivery of departmental objectives and deputise, when required.

About You

Here at Dechra we pride ourselves on being an inclusive employer and we embrace candidates from all walks of life. We’re particularly keen to here from those who have/are:

  • At least 5 years’ experience working within a pharmaceutical laboratory, with experience in directly managing people
  • Knowledge of chemical and instrumental techniques, such as; traditional wet chemistry, spectroscopy, chromatography, Karl Fischer, TOC, pH, etc. and experience troubling-shooting
  • Knowledge of microbiological testing is advantageous
  • Strong IT literacy, with good attention to detail
