The Opportunity 

As part of our Global CMC team, you will apply your expertise as a formulator in your role as a Development Chemist to the successful & timely development of Dechra’s novel and generic pharmaceutical products.  You will utilise formulation technologies/methodologies to carry out required development activities, ultimately contributing to successful regulatory submissions. This role is part of a global function, which will participate in cross-functional and cross-site project teams in the design and execution of Dechra development projects.

Role Responsibility

The Challenge

So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied remit and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:

  • Planning and developing well-designed experimental programs, demonstrating creativity and capability in pharmaceutical research and development.
  • Hands-on design, development and optimisation of a variety of pharmaceutical formulations and executes laboratory experiments
  • Troubleshooting formulation issues that may occur during product development, validations, manufacturing processes, tech transfer/scale-up.
  • Development and scale up of robust drug product formulations and manufacturing processes based upon quality by design (QBD) concepts that address critical quality attributes and process parameters. Processes must ensure quality, afford satisfactory yields and provide transferability to commercial manufacturing operations.
  • Understanding how key API attributes and/or formulation physicochemical data supports the development process, from a critical to quality/process perspective.
  • Actively managing priorities and scheduling of experimental work etc. to meet or exceed project milestones. Regularly communicates project progress, challenges and potential delays to CMC stakeholders.

About You

Here at Dechra we pride ourselves on being an inclusive employer and we embrace candidates from all walks of life. We’re particularly keen to hear from those who have/are:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a relevant field e.g. Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Hands-on commercial experience of around 2-5 years in formulation development (solid dosage forms including tablets is highly desirable), ideally with the ability to design and implement experiments with minimal supervision
  • Working knowledge of physical and chemical techniques used to characterise raw materials and finished formulations
  • Related analytical understanding is desirable
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, including FDA, EMEA, VICH/ICH regulations
  • Some experience of project and technical leadership
  • Strong verbal and written communication in English
