The Opportunity 

Dechra is an international specialist veterinary pharmaceuticals products business. Our expertise is in the development, manufacture, and sales and marketing of high quality products exclusively for veterinarians worldwide.

Role Responsibility

So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied remit and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:

  • Identifying new pharmaceutical opportunities in companion animal and equine medicine by liaising with KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders), in the areas of endocrinology, anesthesia/analgesia, dermatology, critical care and equine lameness, by researching unmet needs with practitioners and KOLs, attending veterinary and human health conferences, reviewing publications, and industry announcements.
  • Locating or proposing potential business deals by contacting potential partners; discovering and exploring opportunities; and identifying unmet needs within the industry.
  • Screening potential business deals by conducting scientific due diligence and commercial compatibility with Dechra’s portfolio and business model to determine the feasibility and probability of success of new products. 
  • Working with Group Director BD, Finance team members and the commercial business units (Marketing, divisional executives, Sales Directors, etc), to build financial models for opportunities to determine whether or not progressing with a project is beneficial and warranted.
  • Ensuring all contractual engagements (Confidentiality contracts, Work Orders, etc) meet Dechra’s corporate and legal needs with the assistance of the Legal team or external counsel.
  • Partnering with external companies on pre-clinical or early proof-of-concept studies when necessary
  • Relationship Management: Daily contact with Product Development,  Regulatory, Manufacturing, Technical Services, Sales and Marketing organization.  Contact with executives, supervisors and other stakeholders as needed.  Daily contact with potential partners, KOLs and academic institutions. 

The Ideal Candidate

Here at Dechra we pride ourselves on being an inclusive employer and we embrace candidates from all walks of life. We’re particularly keen to hear from those who have/are:

  • 5 years relevant veterinary pharmaceutical experience

  • Doctorate in veterinary medicine; advanced degrees or specialty board certification desirable; time in clinical practice (companion animal and/or equine) highly desirable
  • Experience in conducting pre-clinical or clinical drug studies, veterinary pharmaceutical registration, or commercial pharmaceutical responsibilities (marketing, sales, technical support, etc)

  • Understanding of pharmaceutical product development and awareness of associated regulatory procedures.

  • Project management training or certification desirable

  • Self-motivated and able to work remotely while keeping others informed and involved

  • Detail orientated

  • Collaborative and able to lead business development projects with team members from diverse areas of the business

  • Ability to support multiple tasks concurrently and prioritize based on the business’ needs

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills, and experience with Excel a must.
