The Opportunity 

Dechra is an international specialist veterinary pharmaceuticals products business. Our expertise is in the development, manufacture, and sales and marketing of high quality products exclusively for veterinarians worldwide. As a member of the manufacturing leadership team, the Site Director will be accountable for leading the Californian manufacturing subsidiary to deliver its objectives around People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Sustainability in alignment with the global manufacturing and supply strategy.  As part of the global DPMS Senior Leadership Team, the Site Director will contribute to the development, design and execution of the overall DPMS strategy that delivers a best in class performance, and will be accountable for delivering the requirements that support the DVP North America business objectives. 

Role Responsibility

So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied scope and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:

• Overall management of Quality remediation including Consent Decree resolution with the FDA and other external legal bodies
• Translating the future Dechra PLC & Dechra Pharmaceutical Manufacturing & Supply Chain strategy into the Site Master Plan
• Engaging and building strong relationships with key stakeholders within the wider Dechra network, including wider support functions - IT, HR, Logistics, Legal; as appropriate
• Managing the reputation of Dechra in the local community by developing relationships with key opinion leaders and external stakeholders 
• Integrating, leading, challenging and empowering Site Leadership Team (SLT) and fostering a climate of teamwork and collaboration to create a great place to work
• Site perspectives to DPM&S and contribute at all leadership team meetings with a Group view and at a strategic level
• Leader of a high performing and competitive manufacturing site:
  • Coaching and mentoring SLT members and providing suitable direction and guidance
  • Leading talent and succession planning to develop future SLT members
  • Supporting in daily crisis management situations
  • Ensuring a balance between People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Sustainability
  • Introducing re-engineered manufacturing processes to achieve lower costs and higher quality at the site
  • Driving cultural change
• Understanding and taking actions to mitigate risk across the whole site
• Interpreting local and industry trends and their impact on the site.
• Ensure compliance with Regulatory requirements, anticipate new requirements and propose related strategies to ensure a fit for purpose and fit for the future site
• Processes and compliance including; risk management, corporate governance, financial rigor, quality processes, business planning, site strategy
• Managing new product introductions and technical transfers
• Line managing, structuring, coaching and developing the SLT
• Providing an interface with the DVP US teams R&D and Regulatory teams
• Dimensional responsibilities for:
  • Site headcount and SLT as direct and indirect reports
  • CapEx budget and management
  • Site P&L Costs
  • Supporting delivery to facilitate sales

Key Performance Indicators

• DPM&S Operational metrics in Quality, Supply, Safety, Cost and Sustainability
• Delivery vs Cost & plan for key initiatives that perform against the global strategy for the role and deliverables for the site

• Comfortable communicating in any medium and to any size audience and level in an inspiring and credible way
• Multi-year Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Site Leadership experience in the USA
• Proven track record of leading operational teams and associated HR elements
• Must have worked within quality supply chain and manufacturing operations
• Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment requirements & legislation
• Significant working knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing technologies, supply chain working practices & quality standards
• Proven experience of managing operational P&L
• Strategic planning/forecasting/thinking
• Degree Educated – Science or Engineering, Business, or degree level (or equivalent experience)
• Business degree level (or equivalent experience)
• Frequent global travel is required with this role.
