Technical Services Veterinarian - Western Canada (Vancouver or Calgary)

Role Responsibility

So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied scope and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:

  • Receive all product inquiries and complaints that may arise by usage of or experience with Dechra products. Calls may be received from (but are not limited to) veterinarians, veterinary technicians and other veterinary support staff, consumers (pet owners), Dechra sales personnel, or other Dechra personnel
  • Provide customer-appropriate information as it pertains to proper product use, extra-label use, literature requests, adverse events, unexpected response to treatment, perceived lack of efficacy, and product manufacturing defects
  • Document all calls within PV-Works database and assess and implement appropriate responses and procedures in compliance with Dechra Canada PV Guidance Documents
  • Follow up with all parties involved to assess causality in any given animal complaint, ensure appropriate counselling on management of complaint, and closure of all calls/complaints received
  • Attend assigned veterinary conventions or other meetings to provide technical support and attend key lectures
  • Accompany Dechra field personnel on clinic calls.  Deliver in-clinic educational presentations when needed (i.e. lunch and learns)
  • Maintain technical competency especially in fields directly related to Dechra and competitor products
  • Assist in developing/presenting sales training to Dechra personnel
  • Present technical seminars to various customers and accompany territory managers on sales calls
  • Present technical seminars as needed at regional, local veterinary meetings or veterinary schools/colleges to support Dechra’s product line and sales goals
  • Foster relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and collaborate on initiatives as required
  • Monitor veterinary literature/VIN for articles/comments related to Dechra products/activities
  • Project a positive image of Dechra and its products to the veterinary profession and comply with all regulatory standards governing veterinary pharmaceuticals
  • Provide strategic input into creation of product promotional materials for assigned product portfolios. Review promotional materials for technical accuracy and to ensure compliance with marketing codes of conduct
  • Create technical marketing material, as needed, to educate internal and external customers on relevant disease conditions and product use
  • Other duties as assigned

The Ideal Candidate

  • DVM/VMD with a minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience; current license to practice in at least one province required
  • Ability to work and perform in a team-based environment
  • Must be a self-starter and can work independent of supervision

  • Sound knowledge of companion animal internal medicine
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and enjoy working on a variety of projects including, but not limited to, technical bulletins, marketing items, PowerPoint presentations, sales training modules, and provide market perspective on potential new products
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with maximum efficiency and productivity
  • Ability to critically evaluate technical materials and edit for clarity, content and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to assimilate/comprehend and critically review published literature
  • Outstanding organization, analytical, and judgment skills
  • Excellent computer skills, and proficient in MS Office platform, PWWorks experience preferred
  • Prior veterinary pharmaceutical industry experience, including pharmacovigilance, preferred
  • Bilingual (English/French) preferred
  • Ability to travel - on average 25-30%
