The Opportunity 

The purpose of this role is to ensure Dechra Pomona maintains compliance with all applicable EHS regulations and provides a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible environment for our employees, contractors and visitors.

The role reports directly to the Site Director and is a member of the Dechra Pomona Site Leadership Team.  The role directly manages a full-time EHS Coordinator; works with third-party consultants and service-providers; and provides EHS leadership, support and guidance for all site activities.

Role Responsibility

So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied remit and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:

  • Develops and implement an effective EHS management system to ensure compliance with regulatory and Company requirements and promote continuous improvement in EHS performance.
  • Works closely with site engineering personnel to ensure EHS aspects are appropriately considered during equipment design/selection and risks are managed when executing projects.
  • Leads continuous improvement initiatives to reduce site impact on the environment and support Dechra’s sustainability commitments.
  • Implements a site inspection program to identify potential hazards, unsafe behaviours, and to monitor compliance with EHS management system requirements.
  • Enhance the competence and capabilities of all site personnel through implementation of an appropriate EHS training program.
  • Promote active employee involvement in the EHS program and coordinate the activities of the site EHS Committee.
  • Compile required submissions to EHS regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor and report Company EHS and sustainability key performance indicators.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science; Occupational Safety and Health; Engineering or closely-related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years progressive EHS experience gained in a manufacturing environment.

  • Professional Certification (CSP, CIH, CHMM, PE, etc) preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of EHS regulations and programs.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Effective supervisory and people management skills.
